WEEK 4/ IN THE GARDEN /FARMGIRL BLOG THON 4/23/08-4/27/08

Welcome to Week 4 of the Farm Girl Blog A Thon!(4/23/08 to 4/27/06)

Since this is a first attempt of having a Garden this year, I have no pics of my Gardens, We did go to TS for seeds this past Sat. We grabbed up some Carrots, Pumpkins (Abby wants to grow some), squash and we are going to buy some Tomatoes later. We have plotted out the Garden and will borrow a tiller from our neighbor. This is where we will be this weekend! I really want to grow Sunflowers and was given some seeds from a Swap and have bought Merigolds to add to the borders of our Garden.

I'm looking for ways to keep the Deer and Bunnies out of our Garden, Please pass me your ideas for this?

Week 3/ Domestic Bliss/In The Kitchen (Farm Girl Blog-A-Thon)

Some Random Pics of my New farmgirl Kitchen. We have had our first Thanksgiving and Christmas here and it's so large Everyone was hanging around the Island/Bar and chatting and helping me cook. This is where I hope to have heart-to-Heart talks with my kids and all of their friends. One day I hope to have someone over for Coffee and share recipes, Still haven't met very many people. I have started to collect Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks and have started to try one recipe a week from there. We have had the Meatloaf made with crushed up Pretzels last week and it was really good, so that has become a keeper! This summer we will make use of the Island by making tons of Apple Pies, We have 4 trees that are now in bloom, Hopefully we will have some Apples to share! My Farmgirl Kitchen means to me Family, Friends and Food..A Peaceful combo.

Inside Flap Copy
Considering job, housework, and child care, women work roughly fifteen hours more each week than men. A Woman's Guide to a Simpler Life is a thoughtful and eloquently written primer that shows women how to set limits and clear their minds and closets to create space for what is truly valuable: work, home, family, friendships, and traditions.

Dr. Van Steenhouse identifies three key obstacles to simplification: the fear of appearing selfish, the tug of internal resistance, and the trap of perfectionism. Pointing out the perils of modern living, she shows us that we don't have to be slaves to technology; we can pull the plug sometimes to give ourselves space.

With sensible, soulful advice and real-life anecdotes, A Woman's Guide to a Simpler Life helps women minimize intrusions upon their spirits that take up time and energy without providing a sense of renewal and enrichment. It encourages women to listen to their hearts, absolve themselves of guilt and unrealistic expectations, have the courage to say no, and pare away nonessentials to live a saner, more fulfilling life. Dr. Van Steenhouse's invaluable lesson: A simpler life is one in which the knowledge of what matters dictates all that surrounds us, giving us the courage to let go of what our hearts know does not belong.

Welcome to the "FARM GIRL BLOG-A-THON WEEK- 2"

( 4-12/08-4-16/08)
THEME: "FARM GIRL HEART" .....WHAT BEING A FARM GIRL MEANS TO YOU.

Being a Farmgirl means Living Simply to me. After living in town with a house on both sides of us, close enough to see into our neighbors livingroom, We were ready for a change and fell in love with our first house! I can have a Garden and our kids can run freely in our back 5 acres and I don't have to ALWAYS be on the lookout. We have the ability to fulfill our dream of owning our Horse and have as many dogs as we wish!

Growing up I have lived in many Apartments and subdivisions and never really had a yard. My parents were not one to worry about recycling or reusing. We bought TONS of stuff. I'm not sure what the defining moment was for me to see how I could change how much stuff we bought or to see how much stuff we could recycle. I know that I want my kids to grow up to appreciate the Earth and each other.

Living Simply and Enjoying the moments~ This is what being a Farmgirl means to me!

My Achy Back

Somehow while feeding Hoss and filling his water buckets I have pulled a muscle in my back, of course this has to happen while DH is away helping his sister for the week and Isn't expected home till Monday. So I'll be laying on the couch with Advil and catching up on some movies and all of my Tivo shows.

Any ideas on how to feel better FAST so that I can last another couple of days?...LOL

Here are pics of my newest Stitchery that I have finished tonight, it's a dresser scarf or tablecloth which is about the width of my Queen size bed, Stitched in dark Tan, Wouldn't it look grand with a Swan on top?

~Tie One On- Apron that Is~

Welcome to the "Farm Girl Blog-A-Thon! I joined this great blog-a-thon over at Tina's Blog http://www.gardengoose.blogspot.com/ , great Farmgirl! This week's Blog is about Aprons!

Sadly, Since this is coming up on my first year as being a farmgirl on this lovely 6 acre little farm, I have no Aprons! One would be good to have for my morning chores of running out to feed our Horse Hoss. I always get hay on my shirts/sweaters and today I found birdseed in my pockets..LOL. I have started to notice my new Farmgirl friends all have such lovely Aprons, half Aprons, printed Aprons, Frilly Aprons and Lacey Aprons..OH My! Yes, I haven't always been a Farmgirl, raised in FL where as a kid/teenager we spent our time in the Mall...which would be why my family is laughing at me when I where my stinky, muddy boots most of the time! Helping out my DH with the chores, mucking stalls, stacking Hay and riding the 4-wheeler everywhere...We will be here for 1 year in May and I'm happy, stronger than in the past and falling in love with the way things where done back then, but I do Love my washing machine and Dishwasher...LOL. I'm glad I found the Farmgirl Connection and stumbled upon a great group of Gals, I'm learning and laughing alot with them! Now I just have to find a cute Apron...LOL!

Spring!

I have flowers a plenty popping up here! The kiddos and I walked the property today in the sunshine and played down by the creek. It was warm with a little breeze. It was good to air out the house today, smells fresh now! I'm working on a few new stitcheries and starting on a quilt for my SIL who has stage 3 overian cancer and is in the Hospital. Please pray for Wendy, She is a darling, upbeat, kind hearted soul. I'm blessed to have her in my life. Since this is my first ever quilt I'm full of nerves, I want it to be just right to keep her warm in the Hospital for almost 3 months! I'm off to work on some more of my project and trying to fit Spring Cleaning in somewhere.
